What a great weekend of voyage and connection in The District of Columbia that is! I got the chance to support L.A.F.A.C.T; local brand designer and musical artist Jacquay Hosey who goes by performing name Blak King Folk. L.A.F.A.C.T clothing brand is a fashion line that targets all markets, and was founded to empower young women and girls and create opportunities for them in fashion.
The fashion show called 007: The Assassin was presented by Stampede School of Modeling & A Disease Called Hope on March 17th, this past Saturday. There were so many talented designers from the DMV area, such as Greek Junky, Amorous by Lanee J., DJS Lifestyles, VI II IV Clothing, Hotmomma Designer…just to name a few.
A while back I had previously supported Jacquay’s album cover for “Playas Ball” as well as an model extra in one of his music videos “Any Day Can Be The Day” which peeked views of over 10k within the first month.
It’s not easy to brand yourself but we all must give credit where credit is due and this king is a artist whose managed to brand his own image on his own terms with his own vision. This calls for a future fashion review!! Smooches!!
So I got a chance to link with Donnie Kyte, owner of Molly’s World Boutique and creator of IkeWear36, and was able to get a few new pieces from the release of their new ladies collection. The colors chosen to spark the excitement went well with the cultural shift we have been experiencing in recent days. The material used with this line gives great with wear. The Hill district has been a key place for the city of Pittsburgh. Once being known as little Haiti to then little New Yorker because of the melting pot it became, The Hill district has been known to produce greatness! From the Jazz music influencers like Art Blakey, Erroll Garner to hip hop; such as Mel Man and Jimmy wopo, sheesh we’ve even created sport leagues. The Hill was a center for the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement before the civil war. With all this greatness it was bound to be tampered with.
That’s where Donnie Kyte comes into play. The key is to do for self. Self sufficiency is freedom and this man has been free for 20years. A vet in the game and one of the many influencers from and on the Hill District. And mannnnnn, nephs he’s dope!!!

Who woulda thought the years of sitting in Grandma Lucy attic would turn into a branded business of men in unison. Today I got to sit down with Lamar Wright for awhile, with part of GLA Productions in the background recording all the in between action that came along with it.
Self Brand is geared around the idea of uniting those of entrepreneurs just as myself in networking and building on the work of their portfolio for business. Another success to a well planned event put together once again by the beautifully spirited Nabíla Yasamen El-Bey. The beautiful Modie.J was the host for the night and DJ Goodnight was live on the 1s and 2s.
This time around I got to take a chance and do photography with Madela , half of the Picture It Wright team with Johnthan, and @ArtHousePgh. Awesome awesome awesome vibes from them everyone all evening. Y’all see that flower center chest it was painted by the lovely Allison Melczak of Mad Culture and Other Creative Things. Keith Blockton of KB Innovative Promotions was in the building, Kastles lingerie was everything and then some, Boonie the Kid has his Blue Diamond Vodka was in effect. Everything was dope!! I’m excited to start receiving my photos back from the event; which, by the way, will be posted in the next blog to come showing the work of the photographers.
