Nightmare on E. Carson Street: Halloween Bash!!

Bubby 1/2 SCR

You know I got the sauce…you know I’m saucy && it’s always wet a bishhh never had to use lip gloss, Fenty gloss at that. And if you ain’t know last night I had the Midas touch. I pulled up to the South Side last night around 11pm to get ready to head into Devils and Dolls for the first Halloween bash for the weekend. I sat in the car listening to Rihanna, while I polish my toes and fingernails in all this glittery gold; I literally wasn’t playing bout having a golden touch lol.

I finally walked over to head inside the location, thank goodness Jeremy was securing the door cause he secured my entrance *shrugs shoulders* I walk in hearing them play Asco 100k, walked to the bar and seen the beautiful Aliya Wray, host, dressed like a beautiful Egyptian Goddess, I made sure to give her some love. Then I started to look around and realize that Devils and Dolls had a remodel *smacks forehead * I literally had to do a double back because I thought I was at the wrong place, meanwhile my goofy self just haven’t been out in a long time, lol.

Aliya Wray, Host

I head over to the next room to jam with the deejay, Mike Brazil (DJ GirlQuitPlayin’), who I think was dressed like a philsbury dough boy or Michelin man, idk but trust me he was taking up space, lol. I waited on the first performance of the night and by surprise is was my friend bubby from the group SCR. He performed his first dolo solo single.

Next up was Stunna2Fly, and trust when I say the crowd went crazy, they were going crazy, singing along to songs I never heard of but now it’s stuck in my head, ughhh, the titles were “Blow Bands” and “Freak Bi**h” #Classics. Then big worm, I mean Eric Fisher showed up to help Aliya with hosting. Rydah was doing her thing walking thru the crowd vibing with everyone. Just an over all great way to start the Halloween escapades.

The costume ideas for the evening were so much fun and unique, there was this one girl who was covered in money but the skirt worn with it was a burlap bag, Chuckie and his bride but my favorite one for the evening were  the group of girls who were dressed up like the Rugrats; Susie was the cutest. And though I didn’t get a chance throw a Halloween outfit together so I kept telling everyone who took a picture with me that they’ve won themselves a trophy for tonight, lol, literally I had the Midas touch. Smooches!!

Heart On A Sleeve!!

(Interview with Owner H.O.S Reggie Howze)

Uber everywhere pre-rolls in my VIP…skrrt skrrt….as I watch Reggie Howze, CEO H.O.S., hop out of his uber, I wait on him to enter the Market District cafe, located in shadyside. Of course he’s branded in his brand, all black windbreaker with letter “H” and cracked hearts all over, walking towards me with his Colgate smile. Greeted with a hug he goes on to tell me about his morning because why wouldn’t I want to hear how awesome his life is, uhhhh he’s actually living it *shrugs shoulders*. Plus I was looking extra relaxed today because I was headed to class so any conversation that isn’t school related is fine by me.

Exhausted from all his hard work he’s been putting in, he still made time for me. Awesomeness!! We jumped right into Q & A because of course I’m a college student who always runs late, *psst* but my grade speaks for itself though, lol.

Q&A

What made you want to take the initiative to start your own business brand?
I didn’t have a job. was looking but no one would hire me and I don’t even have a record or smoke. I was on my way to sleep and woke up in the middle of the night drew the design down during the weekend and made my first prototype of the shirt and it just took off form there.

What does the brand HOS represent?

It’s you being passionate about whatever you like to do. The heart represents the love the crack represents the struggle. It’s not easy but that’s how I came up with the meaning and design, didn’t want to just be heart broken but at that time I was vulnerable not being able to find a job, it can be heartbreaking but I wanted it to relate to all levels.

Why the name HOS?
Heart on a sleeve…it speaks for itself everyone says Ona sleeve but its Heart On a Sleeve.

How do you plan to expand on business?
You can see that I take my design and I’ll add different flavors and stuff characters and sport teams and reach different demographics but when you can tap into different things it puts it out there a little more than the average stuff…that’s how I’ve been able to be consistent and be able to sale stuff on a consistent basis like kids parties or someone comes in town, our sport team always generate all year round. Penguins always do good they won back to back championships.

How can your apparel be purchased?

I have a website, pop up shops, Instagram, PayPal, cash app, or you can bring cash for something I already have. All items are hand crafted so I don’t start unless I get paid first.

What’s next for HOS?
Storefront..I just want to do more production. I would like to do a tour of local designers together. If I have a store I’ll really do well cause people buy off impulse and with a store I can meet the demand. More people want to buy black too and support so I’m working to create a convenience.

Now just for fun…with your heart on your sleeve what does your love life look like? Single? I’m single, don’t nobody like me…lol you know why cause I’m out everyday and when the weekend rolls around the girls all wanna be in ya snap take pictures stuff like that so when that happens it makes others assume cause the girls in ya snap become your shorty or something. But I’m single but I work too much for anybody.

O.J. like, “I’m not black, I’m O.J.”

Okay….

Peppa Pig’s Surprise 2k17!!

Yah yah yippie yippie yah….yah yah yippie yippie yah…we went riding to the seaside with peppa pig and her family. This interactive live show was everything and more to end out the week!

Early Sunday evening, as me and my children run across the street to the main entrance of the Byham Theater in Downtown Pittsburgh, my youngest excites herself to watch Peppa Pig Live.  We head over to pick up our reserved tickets and head to our seats, side note: this is the first time my child has had enough coordination for a whole day all about this pig, lol. Peppa Pig theme music starts up, the kids go crazy *covers ears*.

This show was so much fun. Children’s plays aren’t like they use to be, though. It’s very interactive to keep the attention of the children but as a parent I’m distracted by the fact that the people playing and controlling the characters are dressed in all black, moving the props to make the show come alive. My child doesn’t even see them…it’s like talking to a beautiful person who has a huge mole center of their forehead. The conversation doesn’t stop but the sight is very distracting *smacks forehead* “It’s just people holding the props,” *sucks teeth* ughhhhhh Destinee don’t be hating on your sisters imagination!! Guess I wasn’t the only one who noticed, lol.

Overall a must see to enjoy with the family. The under the water scene was my favorite. Especially the jellyfish, the scene was blacked out and the creatures under the sea were all glowing in a neon light. Hmmmm that gives me a great party idea, that prop has Pinterest written all over it.

*Psst*Almost forgot to mention, those two little girls in the picture are my legacy, Destinee and Journee, my old head and young buck shorty, lol.

Success Panel 2k17!!!

img_3880

First off let me tell you how awesome my smell senses were today. Not only when I got in the elevator did I smell, Versace Eros cologne, lingering off the shoulders of this fine chocolate man, but when it was time to go sit down to start the panel, man soon as I walked in I smelled spicy seasonings, little bit of chipotle, and i guessed tacos. All I heard in background echo was, “You are on it!!” Yessssssss….it was a good nose day. *ahemm* But anyways…..

Early Thursday afternoon I walked through downtown Pittsburgh on Penn Avenue. I headed towards Urban Pathways Charter school ready to talk as a mentor for the Success Panel. A panel put together by two time published author, Kylie Stores MSN, BSN, RN. Let me tell you about this black girl magic right here, not only is she a mastered traveling nurse, she is an inspirational blogger, and now her Success Panel is taking off.

As all the mentors told their story, I was a little hesitant on what I would say, how far back I would start my journey, and even how much I would share. But then the mic was handed to me and my honesty on the struggle and reward of the progress just flowed. I was able to speak of my journey and not feel like it held a burden or regret, everything was just a reflection of growth. I’m proud of myself. The children were proud of me. And guess what??  before I left I shared contact information with six girls.  I felt accomplished. It’s important for the children too see people from their same background make it. So many times people don’t realize they are blessed until they come around someone else who going through a more trying time than they are. But by the time they realize the blessing the next struggle process has already started. It felt good reminding the children that they aren’t alone.

I’m proud of Kylie and all the strides she’s made so far with her life. And I look forward to her continued success. To order the book ‘God Set Me Up’ and ‘Her.Story His.Story’ you can go to God Set Me Up. Wonder who else has been shaking things in the city? Smooches.

Cardi B Birthday Bash 2k17!!

Looking like I caught a lick….

Cardi! Cardi! Aye…say lil bih you can’t fudge with me if you wanted to, these expensive, these is red bottoms these be bloody shoesssssssss, and sure enough every woman was out in their best, if not bloody, expensive shoes to celebrate with Cardi B for her birthday week.

Sunday night, October 15th, local deejay Solo Dolo, radio host Mike Dean, Eric Fisher, just to name a few, brought to the city of Pittsburgh at Club Xtanza for entertainment Cardi B. Anticipation was intense that evening as I pulled up, I looked down Smallman street and seen a line that wrapped around the block for both VIP and general admission. Of course I had to do presale VIP couldn’t, beat the price nor the fact that I didn’t have to wait in line…yay!!

Usually I would’ve said, “Naw it’s a school night for me and the kids I can’t be out” but for $100, I was in there! Now though Cardi B currently only has three mixtapes, two of which she released in six months “What Bih working as hard as her?” lol, literally. She performed in full “Bodak Yellow”, “Foreva”, and she did her verse to “Lick” featuring Offest, which is my jam!! “These blogs got b***hes all shook of me, they be like Chef Cardi B what you cooking b?”

Hair styles were on fleek…outfits were on hammer time *beat drops* can’t touch this!! Everyone came and showed out with their styles for Cardi B. A lot of Femi styles, Fashion Nova, and Lundon looks just to name some retailers. Things remained on trend, velvet was the look of the evening, along with lacey looks, faux furs, disco pants, the city showed out!

Outside of a lovely, great vibing, late night event, *psst (come closer)* I got to get dressed up, yesssssss!!! Pittsburgh is expanding and evolving to fit the lifestyle of this future merchandise buyer, hmmmmm or better yet a storefront owner, idk, but it was a freaking awesome night, should’ve just been there. But if you did miss it I heard that the F-A-B-O-L-O-U-S was coming for Thanksgiving, seems only right to have a great excuse to get dressed up. Smooches.

Fashionable Travels 2017!!

Blog Post 1

#MadeInAfrica2017FashionShow #NewYorkFashionWeek2017

Hello!! Hello!! Hello!! So excited to finally get a chance to blog my first post. It took me a while just to find the right platform and actually continuous reason behind my blogging endeavors. This year has been grand with so many travels that I never really get to share my experiences with anyone, I mean I can write it down in my journal but why not just share with the world. With my graduation months away for me to receive my bachelors degree, I decided to spend the remainder of school on fashionable travels.  I made it to Richmond, VA, Fort Lauderdale /Miami, FL, Washington DC, Philadelphia, PA…..the list goes on and on and hasn’t reached its peak just yet.

The travel that was my favorite and most recent so far is…dun dun dunnnnn…..New York Fall Fashion Week 2017. I witnessed my first underground fashion show called Made in Africa. With designers Madiare K, MRO PALACE, Kennsha Nycole, and Melissa Lockwood Runway Shows, just to name a few. All designs were beautifully colored, draped, hemmed, and embedded within their culture and, *psst* get this all items were ready-to-wear. *squeals*

Defiantly a needed vacation and escape from everyday life, school, work, and motherhood. A chance to show everyone a my street vibes that would work for any wearer, especially for a plain Jane like myself. Also, I got to indulge in some spectacular shrimp scampi marinated in lemon sauce, mhmm mhmm mhmmm good, from Bubba Gump Shrimp, the meal and experience is more so enjoyable if you know the movie Forrest Gump, by the way. Made it to Dallas Barbecue, finger licking good, however the beef ribs were more so fatty than meaty but I’m a chicken eater anyhow, *shrugs shoulders*.

Got to do minimal shopping. Made it to Steve Madden, which by the way, sells Surpega branded shoes, totally off guard with that business move. I was able to buy myself some velvet maroon booties, which is a must right now for this fall season. Though I was a day late to the start of New York Fashion week i made it in time for the Fenty Beauty release, and let me tell y’all the “trophy Wife” highlight and the gloss is everything and then some. Trust me when I say, I’m no beauty expert but the smoothness of Rihanna’s lip gloss and the subtle yet sexy reflective effect from the highlight makes you feel like the next beauty ambassador, lol.  Any who, there is still more places for me to visit before the year is done, hmmmm I’m thinking LA.

Oh and the background artwork that was beautifully displayed behind me is by the  talented Javon Conaway. Follow him on Instagram @artbyjcon.

25 to Life

The first 25 years of my life flew by. Literally, where did the time go, shoot even being in the present I miss moments. I’ve been in search for a new outlet of self. I waited for love because I believed that age tied into me being ready to love someone or even just to receive love, but I was wrong. I thought that because of age I was suppose to already have certain things accomplished in life but I was so off about that. My epiphany’s for life didn’t even become repetitive in thought until after  I stopped believing that being single, a parent, whose never wed doesn’t make you an old maid. Just makes you seasoned, lol. I decided to feel okay that I have love marks (stretch marks). I started feeling okay to keep loving others even when others choose not to. I finally believe its okay to love myself and I love me even more for doing that. Now I am 28 years old, two daughters, and in pursuit of my bachelors degree in fashion marketing. You’re keeping up with a future merchandise buyer!!

I started this blog to show the world what I love. I never get to share my love without an obligation attached to it but this blog will be a chance for me to be expressive from an emotional stance. Facebook is def mental but not from a bias angle, my Instgram shows my different avenues of style I get to play with, Twitter is my rant page that cant be express in 140 characters or less..lol. But now I have a blog where I can share my food choices, great reads, fashionable events, and travels, I hope you all enjoy!!!
